Physical Education April 29- May 3, 2019

SIXTH GRADE: During this week, the students will work on developing the following fundamental skills of  BASKETBALL :  passes, dribbling and shooting. Students will put this knowledge to test in games. During the week, the students will also have a circuit fitness test. Required Materials for Class:  Tennis shoes, water bottle and appropriate clothing. Optional Materials for Class:  Bug spray, hat and sunscreen.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE: To participate in class activities and receive full credit for the class, students need to wear appropriate clothing for P.E. class.
GOALS: We will use the word RESPECTto set the main goals for the year. Right to Learn – Every child has this right to be educated!Effort – Win or lose, trying is the most important trait.Safety – The number one priority each day!Purpose – Understanding how the activity can benefit you.Enthusiasm – Positive energy creates a positive environment!Challenge – Challenge yourself to improve each day.Trust/Teamwork – Work with and trust others, the result can be amazing!
REMINDER: I would like to remind you that all students need to be dressed appropriately for the days that they have P.E. class. Students should refrain from using the following:-  Dresses for the girls-  Jeans (shorts or pants)-  Crocks-  Sandals-  Boots
RULES:Have fun!Candy, food, and/or gum – out of sight, out of mind!Positive attitude!Remain in supervised areas all the time!

Social Studies April 23-26

We will continue our unit on East Asia.  We have already covered East Asian geography and gone through North and South Korean History.  We will move on with with reviewing the history of the rest of the East Asia nations.

-Monday, April 22:  NO SCHOOL.

-Tuesday: Review of North and South Korea Essay.  We will talk about what we learned of the shared (North and South) Korean history and how the two countries differed in their development since the Korean War.

Assessment: Post Essay Questionnaire and worksheet.

-Wednesday: A look at the culture and brief history of Mongolia.

-Thursday:  A look at the culture and brief history of Japan.

-Friday:   Where Is Japan? How Are We Alike and Different?– Students use literature, maps, and globes to understand how physical environments in various parts of the world are similar to and different from one’s own, and that certain areas have common characteristics and can be called regions.

Self- Portrait

Objective: Introduce the concept of anatomy by creating a study of facial features to later paint a self-portrait using a picture and markers.

Activities for the week: Students will apply the elements of pattern and color to their self-portraits using markers as a medium.

Students may use different patterns, they may use their devices for references and ideas.
