6th graders are now beginning to take their basic written essay to the computer. This week they will be learning about the essay writing structure which are: block style paragraphs, font style/size, indentation, double space, punctuation, capitalization, grammar (word choice). This is where students can lose a lot of points in their essay if these mistakes are made.
Next, students are also in the middle of researching their topic to add to their essays to make their points stronger or to bring in some factual information. Students will also learn about citing their sources in preparation for high school essay writing. Then students will enter the 3rd step of essay writing with revising and editing and proofreading. It is a long process but when students can effectively write a two/three page essay with sources and bibliography, they are on well on their way to writing their college essay paper.
