6th graders have their books and they are reading! independently. However, there will be pair/share reading activities so that students are not alone with their books and not really knowing what is expected of them. These speaking/listening activities will hold students accountable to what they are reading and also give opportunities for the students to ask questions about the book for a future pass off (that book) or early book recommendations.
We will also tie in an integrated geography component where students have to keep in mind the location of their novel and what emotions are tied into the location. This is in preparation of learning how to read a map using the map’s vocabulary to work our way from one place to another. This will culminate into an authentic assessment involving video chat with another class somewhere in the world in the coming weeks.
The homework assignment will be assigned Friday and due on Monday.
