Language Arts March 14-18

This week before  Easter break 6th graders will study peer review essays.  This is done to not only to see the works of others but to get ideas about how they can improve their own essay writing.  They also are the ‘fresh eyes’ of this essay paper and can spot mistakes that the essay writer often over looks. This also helps the reviewer in their own essay writing because they may see some of the same mistakes they may make on their own essay papers, it helps in better essay writing going forward.  Students from each class will vote for the best 2 essays and those students will present their essays to school administrators on Wednesday.

Also, 6th graders will formulate test questions based on the book they are now reading called The Hatchet.  They previously had a lesson on recognizing inference questions and the difference with text-dependent questioning.  Students will gather in groups to write out 2  each of the different types of questions and later when we return for break, students will actually take the test they have created.  No homework or assessments this week.
